Overview

Long a haven for active retirement living, with a mild climate, numerous golf courses and excellent healthcare facilities. This area has excellent shopping & transportation. Western Ventura County, the Gold Coast, is an excellent choice for active independent seniors. The Beaches are broad & open with two fishing piers in the area. Mandalay Beach and the Channel Islands Marina are uncrowded, quiet and peaceful. This Harbor offers the Maritime Museum and numerous shops & restaurants. The inland portion of western Ventura County is diverse with wonderful opportunities from Golf course homes, gated developments to lovely condos.   Ventura Harbor Village is a lovely destination filled with shops and restaurants.  Ventura Harbor is home to the Channel Islands National Park. Hueneme Beach offers affordable beach area living with elevators and one level condo homes in gated communities.

Healthcare

Health care is everyone's concern.  Ventura County is served by Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura, St. Johns Regional Medical Center (pictured above) in Oxnard, Los Robles Medical Center in Thousand Oaks and numerous other smaller facilities.  Blue Shield of California, Kaiser Permanente serve the area. Noted medical practices are associated with large metropolitan teaching institutions such as UCLA and the City of Hope.

Ventura County Area Agency on Aging is the County of Ventura's clearing house for information on Senior issues that go beyond independent living.  Information on assisted living facilities, long term care, home health care and other services including transportation & support groups offered to people over 60 is available either online or by telephone.

Affordable Homes

The coastal region of western Ventura County has many types of homes preferred by Seniors. The Surfside Condos & Anacapa View Condos in Hueneme beach feature apartment size 2 bedroom, 1-2 bath homes, some all on one level starting at about $200,000. 

Retirement Living

Also, a pleasant retirement community for independent seniors, Hueneme Bay in Port Hueneme features attached homes and a variety of floor plans starting at about $200,000 and up. A short walk to shopping and banking, Dial A Ride assisted door to door transportation is available to the entire beach area.

Leisure Village in Camarillo is a large community with an abundance of facilities and activities.  Prices start in the mid $200,000 range with a variety of floor plans.

Luxury Homes

Channel Islands harbor is home to Harbour Island Townhomes, all on one level, with elevators, these luxury homes sell for about $700,000 and up. Another excellent choice, The Colony at Mandalay Beach offers single level townhomes starting under $500,000 and the new Marina expansion offers unlimited opportunities for retirement living.
