Port Hueneme may just be a sleepy little city, however, visitors will also discover the many hidden treasures of this colorful haven. Founded in the early 1900's, this legendary town was given the American Indian name for "resting place." With a boundless array of unbroken, white sandy beaches, sky-blue waters, and tranquil seaside plains,   This ocean front town is home to the only deep-water commercial harbor between Los Angeles and San Francisco with Customs Port of Entry and Foreign Trade Zone designation. Also history buffs will recall that it is also home of the Naval Construction Battalion originally formed in World War II,  known as the Fighting Sea Bees. 

The new United States Navy Seabee Museum (pictured below) opens this week featuring exhibits from World War II to the present. As Seabees continue to serve in Afghanistan, the museum honors the service to our nation of the Seebees for the last 70 years. As a personal note, my former wife's uncle, at the age of 16 enlisted in the Navy in the closing days of WWII and was stationed here in Port Hueneme training for the invasion of Japan that fortunately never occurred. Thirty years later, my cousin Marvin, a career sailor was also stationed here in Port Hueneme during his last posting.

At the age of 12, I first went fishing leaving from the Port to the Channel Islands. Later, as an avid SCUBA diver, I made countless trips from the Port to the islands. Once the Port started commercial re-development in the 1980's, first as the import destination for Mazda, the fishing and dive boats moved to the Channel Islands Harbor.

Now known as the Naval Base Ventura County because the Armed Forces have consolidated numerous commands from all the services into the bases in Port Hueneme & Point Mugu.  As the facilities in Port Hueneme grow, spurred by research and development, the former Naval Air Station at Point Mugu, now under the same command is home to numerous active naval air squadrons and the 146th wing of the California Air National Guard. Frequently this base is used as a staging area for fire fighting aircraft that come in from around the country.

Port Hueneme Real Estate consists of the beach area & central core.
